The Annual 45th Art Deco Weekend is coming on January 14th, 2022. The Miami Design Preservation League organizes this prestigious event. This art event is a tribute to all the Art Deco buildings in the Miami Beach area.

What is The Art Deco Weekend All About?
For those of you who don’t know what the Art Deco Weekend is all about, it’s a tribute to the Art Deco buildings and architecture of Miami Beach. The event was created 45 years back by the Miami Design Preservation League to showcase those beautiful Art Deco buildings of the south beach neighborhood.
The purpose here is to promote and preserve the art for our future generations. The League’s earlier work was a catalyst that developed the world-class and vibrant city that we see today.
Event Funding, Partners & Sponsors
The major portion of funding and support for this event comes from the management of City of Miami Beach, along with the mayor and commissioners of the city, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and the City’s Cultural Arts Council.
Festival partners include Miami Herald, Miami New Times, and El Nuevo Herald. And the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau will be the marketing partner.
Event Activities
Various activities will take place during the Art Deco Weekend.
Walking Tours
Different walking tours include the Ocean Drive Architectural Tour, introducing you to Art Deco.
Lectures
You can hear lectures on Art Deco Radio from experts in the field. They will guide you about the designers’ extraordinary creativity contribution from way back in the 1930s. There will be lectures about the art of fake news when the lecturers take you back in time to 1938. It was when radio listeners in the US heard about the infamous meteor strike and various others.
Classic car show
The Antique Automobile Club of America (Southern Florida Region) will hold a classic car show. If you are a classic car enthusiast, this is the show you must not miss. You will see some of the classics from the past and see how they contributed to the designs that we see today.
Exhibitions
Various exhibitions will be part of this Art Deco Weekend as well. One of the exhibitions will feature the life work of Morris Lapidus, and some of his work is directly related to retail design works. Aerial Vision of Wolfsonian-FIU will discuss how the early 20th century inventions of skyscrapers and airplanes stood for the embodiment of mankind’s greatest achievements.
Live Music
You will see Troy Anderson and the Hot Five in action with their tunes. You can also participate in dance lessons conducted by Gypsy Juls and Yuval Hod, who are the four-time world champions.
In addition, the French Horn Collective will perform energetic Gypsy Jazz French music through the event, the beach, and many others.
Live Theater
You can enjoy live theater “A Wonderful World,” the world premiere musical about Louis Armstrong, the jazz legend. This theater will feature famous songs that Armstrong recorded himself.
Sketch Walks
There will be sketch walks held at various locations throughout Miami Beach. These include the Colony Hotel and the Classic Car Show, the Pastel Trio, The Tudor Hotel, and the Miami Beach Patrol HQ. You will get to do sketching and learn more about this art.
Films
If you have a keen interest in films, the event will bring in a few interesting features for you to cherish. They will show Radioland Murders, Freedom Radio, and The Big Broadcast of 1938. You can research these topics and watch the movies here at the event.
Chess
If you have a thing for chess, this is the activity for you. Commissioner Mark Samuelian will play chess with students and other players during this event on January 16th. You can participate in the competitions or learn from the experts.
Kids Zone
There will be plenty of fun for your kids throughout this event. You can bring your kids to take part in obstacle courses, bounce houses, and other activities. This activity will take place on January 15th and 16th.
The Dog Walk
The walks are all for the dogs! You can bring in your furry friend for a walk through the Ocean Drive area during the event. You can even dress up with your fur-ball in your Art Deco get up.
What Will be the Festival Hours?
The festival hours will be 12 pm to 10 pm on Friday, January 14th, 2022. Saturday’s hours will be 10 am to 10 pm. And on Sunday, the hours will be 10 am to 8 pm.
Where to Stay for the Festival?
Those of you who will be coming to attend this festival will have different options for their stay. You have the option of staying at The National Hotel of course, which is part of the official guided walking tour of the 2022 Art Deco Weekend.
Become an Exhibitor
You also have the opportunity to become a vendor or an exhibitor at this event. You can bring in your antiques and vintage collectibles. Moreover, you can bring in your photography work, sculpture work, and original art if you are an artist. Apart from that, you can bring in handmade or homemade items. If you are a small business owner, this event might come in quite handy to gain some attention.
Become a Volunteer
If you want to volunteer for this event, you can participate in different areas according to your expertise, as plenty of room is available. You can either go for a physical type of volunteering, desk volunteering, or even both.
